University Neighbourhoods Association

Vancouver, CA

The University Neighbourhoods Association (UNA) approximates a municipal council for the local areas on campus, promoting the creation of a vibrant, sociable, safe and diverse university town community at the University of British Columbia (UBC). The UNA Board of Directors is comprised of four directors elected by residents, two directors appointed by UBC and one appointed by the Alma Mater Society (AMS). The number of elected directors is determined by neighbourhood population and will thus increase over time. The UNA is responsible for local regulation (such as noise, parking, and animal control), as well as community programs and recreation, elections, landscaping, policies and by-laws, and acts as a liaison for the community’s use of UBC facilities. Residents’ concerns, opinions and views are heard through the UNA and it will help shape future development and the allocation of community facilities at UBC.
