Michael Jacobs is married to Margaret Ann. They have three sons (Tim/Jessie, Chris/Amy and Jamie/Dana) and five grandchildren (Ethan, Sean, Sophie, Mazie and Porter). Michael started the paper on June 4th, 1998 with 8 pages and 6000 issues. Today, there are at least 24 pages (one issue was 32 pages), 16 in colour, and 19,650 copies per edition. 18,500 are mailed out to various postal codes by Canada Post. The Springwater News is a member of the Ontario Community Newspaper Association Canadian Community Newspaper Association Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce and numerous other organizations.
