This Black History Month it’s more important than ever to consume media that reflects the true colors of the society in which you want to live. It’s time to choose media that lifts up young women and gives voices of minorities the much-deserved spotlight. We’ve picked out five prime examples of Black Girl Magic to get you started, but there’s much more to find on issuu.com.

1. Unapologetic Magazine

Unapologetic Magazine is a true celebration for melanin-blessed ladies of all shades, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. It states loud and clear: Black Is Magic.

3. Lemonade Syllabus

Obviously Bey has a lot to teach us. Thought leader and educator Candice Benbow put together the Lemonade Syllabus, which is basically the best Intersectional Feminism 101 course you could hope to take. Check off the reading list and get woke.

4. Coalition Zine

Delve into the beautiful intricacies of black girlhood in Coalition Zine. By creating a space for women of color to share their stories and start conversations in a safe space, Coalition Zine is challenging the way traditional media and academia approaches storytelling. Start with this profound photostory by Teta Alim, then set aside the rest of your day to read through their back issues.

5. Halfstack Magazine

The name says it all: Halfstack Magazine’s Divine Feminine issue lays out how women of color are kicking ass and taking names in their chosen fields. Not to mention, lifting up other women in the process. Pay special attention to the feature called Maven Women.
